Kriya yoga is an age-old method of meditation that, when performed, is intended to hasten a person’s spiritual development.
The Kriya yoga meditation method has been used for millennia in India, but it only gained international recognition until Paramahansa Yogananda addressed it in his book “Autobiography of a Yogi.”
He is recognized as one of the current Kriya yoga founders and brought the discipline to the West in the 1920s.

➡ Sit down in a comfortable position to start. The floor or a low stool might be used for seating.
➡ Whenever you feel most comfortable, place your arms there.
➡ Your knees should be underneath your pelvis. In accordance with tradition, you should hold your arms in the lotus position with your fingers entwined and your thumbs barely touching.
➡ Maintain a straight spine and an erect posture. Allow your body to unwind, and let your body and mind become quiet and relaxed.
- Depending on your preference, either close your eyes or avert your gaze to the floor while concentrating on a certain area.
- Spend the next five minutes enabling your body to feel even more at ease and relaxed once you are comfortable in your position.
- One by one, you should relax each of your muscle groups. You can do this by concentrating on a relaxing or peaceful activity. You can feel as though your mind is racing with ideas. But this is typical. Just let them float through before returning to the peaceful notion that first entered your head. Focus on that idea, then let yourself relax once more.
- Practice this kriya for around 20 minutes, and as you feel more at ease in this position, you can begin to lengthen the time you spend doing it.
- For novices, this kriya yoga is appropriate. Kriya allows you to transcend your senses, body, emotions, and thoughts. Your chakras become balanced as a result of your focus, and you experience deep relaxation.

Being able to create energy at will and direct it where you want is the key to success in life and in meditation practice.
In addition to learning the Energization Exercises, which are an essential component of this curriculum, Yogananda also devised the techniques in “Learn to Meditate.”
💡 Step 3: Opening the Heart to Devotion
We start to experience something bigger than ourselves as our meditation practice progresses. It doesn’t matter what name you give it—the higher self, the soul, or God—it is another level of awareness.
How can we connect to it? What part does it play in our lives? Investigate meditation as a tool for introspection, heart awakening, and the start of what Yogananda refers to as the “divine romance.”

A pupil has the option to follow Yogananda as a disciple. A pledge is made in a straightforward ceremony requesting the guru for guidance in discovering our path to inner freedom.
The goal of a guru is not to make your will weak, asserts Yogananda.
You will learn how to harness your inner strength so that you can remain unaffected by the collision of collapsing worlds.
💡 Step 6: Prepare for Kriya Yoga
Give Kriya to “all who humbly ask for assistance.” To get the body and mind ready to receive the power generated by using this technique, some preparation is required. Babaji asked Yogananda to introduce the Kriya meditation method to the West as “a tool through which human evolution can be accelerated.”
